En una casa azul y blanca a media construcción y amueblada por la miseria en un barrio llamado “La Canastita” de San Cristóbal, reside Miledys Rodríguez, de 37 años. Rodríguez pasa los domingos en la mañana preparando el desayuno para sus tres hijos y su marido. Luego del tentempié asisten a la misa de una iglesia cercana.
Miledys es ama de llaves en la capital, trabaja en la casa de una familia acomodada y mantiene parte de los gastos en su hogar. Su marido, José Martínez es comerciante y trabaja en el mercado.
Rodríguez está satisfecha con el Gobierno, pero aún tiene algunas quejas como el problema de la luz en su barrio. “Por lo menos ya se puede ir para los supermercados con par de funditas, pues cuando el gobierno del ex – mandatario Hipólito Mejía no eso se podía”, comenta. Su marido, en cambio, se queja del alza de la gasolina, pues gasta aproximadamente RD$300.00 cada vez que viaja a la ciudad.
En la misma tarde y un poco apartado de “La Canastita”, en una casa de tabla y cemento, vive Silvia Piera, de 43 años reside en el barrio “Fabridio” donde las quejas no se limitan a la luz.
Las calles que rodean el barrio están llenas de un lodo espeso que le hace más difícil la entrada a su vivienda que comparte con su hermana menor. “¿e’ pa’ lante que vamos? tan pa` lante que nos caímos en un hoyo”, dijo refiriéndose a la famosa frase de campaña del actual presidente de la República, Leonel Fernández, que aspira a reelegirse.
No tiene nada en la estufa. Esperará hasta la tarde para comer y cenar al mismo tiempo. Silvia es lavandera en la capital y trabaja en varias casas de familia. Su hermana tiene el mismo trabajo pero no sale de San Cristóbal.
Piera le pide al presidente Fernández que para que llegue el progreso “que ayude con la educación y la salud”, y Rodríguez, sólo pedía que: “leonel me ayude a terminar mi casita”.
